Claude vs ChatGPT for Business: Plans, Admin Controls and Connectors Compared

Claude vs ChatGPT for business compared: seat prices, SSO and SCIM, connectors, admin controls, retention and training defaults, plus where Copilot fits in.

Claude vs ChatGPT for business is a decision about which AI assistant plan, admin model and set of connectors fits the way your company already works. This comparison puts Claude Team and Enterprise next to ChatGPT Business and Enterprise on seats, SSO and SCIM, connectors, admin controls, retention and model training defaults, then shows where Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini fit.

Both assistants handle the everyday work staff bring to them: drafting, summarizing long documents, analysing spreadsheets, and answering questions from shared project files. The differences that decide a company rollout sit in the plans. Who can add a connector, whether accounts are created automatically, how long chats are kept, and what each seat costs all vary between the two vendors and between their own tiers.

Seats and Pricing on Claude and ChatGPT Business Plans

At the entry tier the two price lists match. Claude Team and ChatGPT Business both list a Standard seat at $20 per user per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, and a Premium seat at $100 annually or $125 monthly. Anthropic describes Team as “for teams of 2 to 150” and takes monthly or annual billing by credit card. OpenAI’s page says you can “mix and match seat types” in one Business workspace.

The enterprise tiers are priced differently. Anthropic lists Claude Enterprise as “seat price + usage at API rates,” with a self-serve option at US$20 per seat per month billed annually and a 20-seat minimum; invoicing and net terms go through sales, and seats can be added midterm. ChatGPT Enterprise has no published price and is quoted by OpenAI’s sales team. Both vendors bill seats directly to your company.

SSO, SCIM and User Provisioning Compared

Both vendors include SSO and domain verification on their entry company plans, so staff sign in through your identity provider from the start. Claude adds just-in-time (JIT) provisioning on Team and Enterprise, which creates a Claude account the first time an assigned employee signs in through SSO. ChatGPT Business offers bulk member management in the admin console for the same job.

SCIM, which lets the identity provider create and remove accounts automatically, sits on the Enterprise tier for both. Claude Enterprise also lists domain capture. On Claude, an Owner verifies the domain with a DNS TXT record, connects the identity provider and turns on JIT, then turns on Require SSO. After that step, domain users who are unassigned in the identity provider lose access to their personal Claude accounts, so the assignment list is checked before the switch.

How Claude and ChatGPT Connectors Reach Your Business Systems

Connectors are where an AI assistant starts working with your own records instead of pasted text, and the two vendors handle them differently.

Claude supports custom connectors over remote MCP on every plan. On Team, only Owners and Primary Owners can add them; on Enterprise, custom roles with the “Manage access to Libraries” permission can add them too. Once a connector is added to the organization, each user connects to it individually, and Owners can disable specific tool calls. HubSpot’s connector is a good example of scoping. Each person connects with their own HubSpot login, the connector inherits that person’s HubSpot permissions, and a HubSpot Super Admin approves it and chooses the data scopes. It cannot read Sensitive Data properties or delete records, and write tools can be set to “Needs approval.”

ChatGPT Business lists apps connecting to internal tools, company knowledge and developer mode (beta), the route for custom remote MCP connections. ChatGPT Enterprise adds a connector registry for a managed list of approved connections. On either assistant, we approve each connector with its data owner and test it with a restricted account before staff get it.

Admin Controls, Audit Logs and Retention

On the entry plans, both give admins usage analytics and shared work. Claude Team and Enterprise list usage analytics and Project sharing, which Free, Pro and Max do not have. ChatGPT Business lists an admin console with admin roles, user analytics, an analytics dashboard and GPT analytics.

The records controls that legal and compliance teams ask about sit on Enterprise for both vendors. Claude Enterprise lists role-based access, audit logs, custom data retention controls and a Compliance API. ChatGPT Enterprise lists role-based access controls, custom data retention policies and a Compliance API logs platform, plus Enterprise Key Management, IP allowlisting, Intune for iOS and “support for data residency in ten regions.” Claude Enterprise vs ChatGPT Enterprise comes down to the specific control your auditors ask for, with audit logs and domain capture on Claude’s side and key management and data residency on OpenAI’s.

Model Training Defaults for Company Data

Both vendors keep company data out of model training on their business plans. Anthropic’s pricing page lists model training as “None by default” for Team and Enterprise, and its commercial terms state, “Anthropic may not train models on Customer Content from Services.” OpenAI lists “No training on your business data by default” for Business and Enterprise.

Personal accounts work differently on both. Claude Free, Pro and Max are listed as “Opt-out,” and ChatGPT Free and Plus are used for training unless the user switches it off in Data Controls. Moving staff onto a company plan gives everyone the same default and lets the AI use policy state it once.

Where Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini Fit

Many companies compare Claude and ChatGPT against the assistant already inside their office suite.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft lists Copilot Chat “at no additional cost for all Microsoft Entra account users” with an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription. The Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on is listed at $30 per user per month paid yearly, and Microsoft 365 Copilot Business at $18 per user per month paid yearly (a first-year promotional price) or $25.20 paid monthly, with Microsoft’s note, “Prices shown are for marketing purposes only and may not reflect the actual list price.” Microsoft’s privacy documentation states that Copilot “only surfaces organizational data to which individual users have at least view permissions” and that prompts and responses “aren’t used to train foundation LLMs.” Agents built in Copilot Studio can call MCP servers.

Claude vs Copilot, and ChatGPT Enterprise vs Copilot, usually turn on where the work lives. Copilot works with the Microsoft 365 data each user can already view. Claude and ChatGPT suit companies whose work spans several systems reached through connectors, or teams that want shared projects and custom assistants outside the Microsoft suite.

Google Gemini

Google Workspace plans include Gemini at list prices on Google’s Workspace pricing page: Business Starter at $7 per user per month with Gemini in Gmail, and Business Standard at $14 with Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Drive, Meet and Chat. Gemini Enterprise comes in Business, Standard, Plus, Pay-as-you-go and Frontline editions, with pricing through Google’s sales team. Google’s Gemini Enterprise FAQ states that Gemini Enterprise data “is never used to train Google models or models for any other customer.” Workspace admins can switch the Gemini app off, exclude Gmail, Drive, Calendar or Chat as Gemini sources, and set Gemini app chats to auto-delete at 3, 18 or 36 months, with 18 as the default, according to Google’s Workspace privacy hub. For a company that runs on Workspace, Gemini is the natural comparison point.

Which AI Assistant Fits Which Company

The plan details point to a few clear patterns:

  • Small teams of 2 to 150 that want shared projects, SSO and connectors can choose between Claude Team and ChatGPT Business on features, since the seat prices match.
  • Companies that need SCIM, audit logs or custom retention compare Claude Enterprise and ChatGPT Enterprise on the specific control their compliance team requires.
  • Microsoft 365 companies can start with Copilot Chat for everyone and add Claude or ChatGPT seats for the teams whose work runs across other systems.
  • Google Workspace companies compare the Gemini included in their Workspace plan with a Claude or ChatGPT workspace for heavier users.

Running two assistants works well when one AI use policy covers both and each has its own admin owner.

Frequently Asked Questions on Claude vs ChatGPT for Business

Both handle everyday drafting, summarizing and analysis well, so the better choice depends on your plan needs and your systems. Claude Team and ChatGPT Business list the same Standard and Premium seat prices. Claude includes JIT provisioning and custom connectors over remote MCP on Team, while ChatGPT Business includes workspace GPTs and mixed seat types. Compare the connectors your staff need and the admin controls your compliance team requires.
Anthropic lists Claude Enterprise as seat price plus usage at API rates, with a self-serve option at US$20 per seat per month billed annually and a 20-seat minimum. It adds SCIM, domain capture, role-based access, audit logs, custom retention and a Compliance API. ChatGPT Enterprise is quoted by OpenAI's sales team and adds SCIM, Enterprise Key Management, IP allowlisting, a connector registry, custom retention, a Compliance API logs platform and data residency support in ten regions.
Copilot works inside Microsoft 365 and, according to Microsoft, only surfaces organizational data each user can already view. Copilot Chat comes at no additional cost with an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription. Claude suits teams whose work spans systems outside Microsoft 365, reached through connectors and shared projects. Microsoft 365 companies can give everyone Copilot Chat and add Claude seats for specific teams.
On their business plans, both vendors keep company data out of training by default. Anthropic lists model training as none by default on Claude Team and Enterprise, and OpenAI lists no training on business data by default for ChatGPT Business and Enterprise. Personal Claude and ChatGPT accounts use different defaults, which is one reason companies move staff onto a company plan.
Both list a Standard seat at $20 per user per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, and a Premium seat at $100 annually or $125 monthly, according to Anthropic's and OpenAI's pricing pages. Each vendor bills seats directly. Setup, connectors, policy and training are scoped separately with the partner who runs your rollout.
Yes. Some companies give one team Claude and another ChatGPT, or pair either with Copilot or Gemini from their office suite. It works well when one AI use policy covers every assistant, each workspace has a named admin owner, and SSO runs through the same identity provider.
