AI in Aviation: Custom AI and ML for MRO Shops, Repair Stations and Aerospace Suppliers
Global MRO demand in 2025, up 8% on 2024, per the Oliver Wyman Global Fleet and MRO Market Forecast 2026–2036.
Less GEnx blade inspection time with GE Aerospace’s AI Blade Inspection Tool, from 3 hours to 1.5, per GE Aerospace (October 2024).
Pages of maintenance documentation that Textron Aviation’s generative AI assistant searches for technicians, per Microsoft’s customer story (March 2025).
Where AI Pays Back in Aviation
Artificial intelligence in aviation pays back fastest on the ground, in the hours technicians, engineers and planners spend finding information. Manual lookups take hangar time. AD and SB applicability checks run by hand, tail by tail. Records sit across paper logbooks, scanned 8130-3 tags and the tracking system. Controlled technical data belongs inside your boundary, so the AI that reads it runs there too. We build custom AI for these workflows and deploy it privately, on your servers or in your own cloud tenant, with every answer citing the manual, revision and page it came from.
Maintenance Copilot
Technicians ask in plain language and get answers that cite the AMM or CMM task and its revision. Search runs across manuals, work orders and past findings for the tail in front of them.
Predictive Maintenance
Models trained on your removal history, shop findings and flight hours forecast unscheduled removals by component. Planners see flagged parts early enough to move the work into a planned check.
ITAR-Ready AI for Technical Data
Language models over drawings, specs and technical data packages run inside your boundary. Access follows your directory groups, and every query is logged with the user, the sources and the answer.
AD and SB Applicability Checks
An agent reads each new airworthiness directive or service bulletin and drafts its applicability for every tail number and serial number. Your engineer reviews the draft and signs it off.
Records Digitization
Logbooks, work packages and 8130-3 tags become searchable records with dates, part numbers and serials extracted. Audits, lease returns and back-to-birth traces start with a search.
Visual Inspection Support
Computer vision models flag likely cracks, burns and coating loss in borescope and surface images. The inspector reviews the flagged frames first and makes every disposition.
Who We Build For
MRO Shops and Part 145 Repair Stations
- Manual and IPC lookup with cited AMM and CMM tasks
- Work-package drafting from task cards and the capability list
- Records search for audits and customer quality reviews
Aerospace Parts and Component Suppliers
- RFQ intake with stock, cert and trace checks
- Engineering search over drawings, specs and technical data packages
- Nonconformance and supplier quality analysis
Charter and Regional Operators
- AD and SB applicability tracking by tail number
- Reliability and repeat-defect analysis by ATA chapter
- Records digitization for audits and lease returns
Avionics, eVTOL and Drone Engineering Teams
- Training data pipelines and test data management
- Requirements and test traceability search
- Certification document drafting on a private LLM
Private by Design
AI in aerospace and aviation work runs on controlled data, so every system we build runs where that data already lives. You choose one of three deployment options: on-premise servers in your own facility, an air-gapped network with no internet path, or a private tenant in your own cloud account.
The boundary matters because of the ITAR. Under 22 CFR 120.50, releasing technical data to a foreign person inside the United States counts as an export, known as a deemed export. A model you host keeps every release decision under your own access controls.
Access runs through your existing directory groups, so only the people cleared for a document set can query it. Every query is logged with the user, the sources retrieved and the answer. Your own staff load the controlled data, and NeuralChainAI does not need access to it.
Where We Focus
Our aviation AI work sits on the ground side: tools for technicians, engineers and planners, including the engineering teams at avionics, eVTOL and drone developers. Every tool keeps a qualified person in the decision. The engineer signs the applicability, and the inspector makes the disposition.
Flight-critical AI on board an aircraft follows its own certification track, set out in EASA’s Artificial Intelligence Concept Paper Issue 2 and the FAA’s Roadmap for Artificial Intelligence Safety Assurance, and it ships through an aircraft or avionics maker’s own certification program.
How an Engagement Runs
Three stages, each with a decision point, so you expand only what your technicians and engineers already use. Book a strategy session to scope the first stage.
The three stages
- Data and document review: manuals, records and access rules mapped before any build
- Pilot on one fleet type or one manual set, scored against your own question set
- Rollout across fleets, sites and document sets, with monitoring and audit reporting
